Poll Of The Month: Favourite Classic Marvel Artist

After a trial run, let's introduce the Age of Marvel Comics blog's Poll of the Month. And what better way to start than with six legendary classic artists? Competing in the poll on the right side of the blog's home page (right in between the "popular posts" and "featured post") for the title or best classic Marvel artist are:

Jack "The King" Kirby

"Sturdy" Steve Ditko

"Big" John Buscema

"Jazzy" John Romita Sr.

"Genial" Gene Colan

"Gorgeous" George Perez

Voting is simple, just select next to the name in the poll and then click "vote". Only take into account the work the artist did for Marvel and only for the '60s and '70s (so for example George Perez' run on Avengers V#3 doesn't count this time). Likewise, only vote the art, not any contribution the artist may have given to plots and stories. Feel free to discuss your votes in the comments section. The poll will stay open for a little over a month.

My personal vote goes to George Perez after a tough battle with John Buscema (another John, Romita, takes third step on the podium). With both artists being amazing in virtually every aspect, it comes down to a choice between level of detail and facial expressions. I think Buscema is the absolute master at drawing expressive characters, but Perez' figures look a bit prettier overall and I tend to like very detailed panels with plenty of characters.

Who do you choose? Sound off below.
